Frequently
Asked Questions
What is a pixel font?
Pixel fonts are specially designed so that every part of every character
falls exactly on the monitor's pixels. This prevents the text from appearing
blurry on computer monitors.
How
do I use these fonts?
Full instructions as to how to use these fonts will be supplied with
your download.
Can I set these fonts at
any size?
No. The font size in Flash should always be set at 8 pixels,
however the actual size of the font, depends on each specific font.
Denominations of 8 will also work (e.g: 16, 24, 32), however the font will
appear pixelated.
Will
this font work for all screen resolutions?
Yes. FFF fonts appear as clear at a resolution of
640x480 as they do at 1280x1024.
Can I use this font in
other programs, besides Flash?
FFF fonts are designed to work with
Macromedia Flash. These fonts should work in other programs too. In Adobe
Photoshop, for example, just make sure that you turn off antialiasing (not
strong, crisp, bold, italic etc.). We cannot guarantee the correct display
of these fonts in any other program besides Macromedia Flash.
Can one print using these
fonts?
These fonts have been designed to look best on computer monitors
and the same results cannot be expected when printing.
May these fonts be used
commercially?
Yes. The purchase license entitled you to unlimited use of
these fonts for any of your designs, however they may not be copied,
modified, resold or redistributed in any way. Please note, should you wish
to install these fonts on multiple computers, a separate license is required
for each computer, even within the same company.
Can I resell these fonts?
No. FFF fonts may not be copied, modified, resold or redistributed in
any way. Please read our disclaimer.
Do I need any special
software to use the fonts? The only software that is required is
Macromedia Flash. For Hebrew fonts, you must have a Hebrew enabled operating
system.
How do I install these
fonts?
You may install these fonts in the Windows fonts directory (as
you would install any Windows font), although for easier font management, we
recommend using the free utility Adobe ATM Lite. You may download this
software from the Adobe website.
Can these fonts be masked?
Yes. If using dynamic or input text, the fonts must be embedded.
Can these fonts be
animated?
Yes. However, when publishing at high or medium quality, the
fonts will blur if tweened. Animating through Actionscript so that the text
always sits on whole pixels will solve this problem at high or medium
quality. At low quality, all animated FFF fonts will appear sharp.
Can these fonts be used as
dynamic or input as well as static text?
Yes. For dynamic and input text
embed the fonts as this will ensure that they will display correctly on any
computer. Static text embeds the font by default. Dynamic and Input text can
sometimes appear blurry due to a bug in the Flash program. To ensure that
these will always be crisp, publish at low quality.
Will these fonts display
correctly on websites even if the font is not installed on the user's
computer?
Yes. For dynamic and input text embed the fonts as this will
ensure that they will display correctly on any computer. Static text embeds
the font by default.
What are the advantages of
pixel fonts over device fonts or dynamic text?
Pixel fonts may be
masked, embedded (and still look sharp) as well as offering you a variety of
styles which would not otherwise be safe and available to use. It is not
possible to ensure the correct display of Hebrew fonts when using
non-embedded dynamic text. FFF Hebrew pixel fonts allow you to embed dynamic
Hebrew text while retaining the same HTML sharpness.
What size are these fonts?
Although the fonts size should be set at 8 pixels, the actual size of
the fonts varies from font to font.
Can these fonts be used for
bold, italic and normal text?
No. They can only be used as is. No bold
or italic, however you may change the kerning and line spacing values.
How should I publish a
movie?
Flash movies should be published/exported at Match Movie or
Pixels.
